Embracing Intuition: Transforming My Career Path Against Odds
Written on
Chapter 1: The Influence of Scarcity
Throughout my life, I have always leaned on the quiet, guiding voice of my intuition. As Oprah once said, “I’ve trusted the still, small voice of intuition my entire life. And, the only time I’ve made mistakes is when I didn’t listen.” Growing up, I was often surrounded by a mindset focused on scarcity, which significantly influenced my decision-making process.
Living as a young Italian in the wake of the 2008–09 global financial crisis, I faced a challenging landscape characterized by high youth unemployment and frequent changes in leadership. This environment subtly directed my choices, often prioritizing security over passion.
For instance, although I was free to choose my high school subjects, societal expectations nudged me towards a math-heavy curriculum, despite my preference for the arts. I often heard comments like, "You are too intelligent to study art exclusively," which reinforced this notion. Later, when it came time for university applications, my inclination toward fashion design was overshadowed by pressure to pursue psychology, with remarks like, “There’s only one Giorgio Armani; how can you expect to succeed?”
These external influences often left me feeling bewildered, especially as I approached graduation. The pressure to secure a ‘financially stable’ future began to weigh heavily on me.
When I received offers for two internships with reputable companies, I felt trapped. The logical choice was clear, yet I yearned for a different path.
Section 1.1: Breaking Free from Fear
I realized that I could no longer allow fear to dictate my decisions. I chose to trust my intuition and declined the internships, despite the societal pressure to accept them. This decision opened a new chapter in my life, one filled with unexpected opportunities.
A few months later, I was contacted by my dream organization, a position I had deemed unattainable. After a competitive selection process, I secured an internship there, which offered better compensation than the previous options. My journey became a gamble, relying solely on my intuition amidst skepticism.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Journey Ahead
This new role led me to make bold choices, such as leaving the organization despite nearing a promotion. My intuition urged me to travel the world while working remotely. After I departed, I learned that the position I was meant to take was canceled shortly after.
Years later, I left another remote job. Faced with burnout, I chose to prioritize my well-being instead of accepting extra freelance work from a previous client. Shortly after my resignation, I received an email from that client seeking my services.

The first video explores how intuition can guide you during challenging times, offering insights on trusting yourself in the face of uncertainty.
The second video features Simon Sinek discussing leadership and the importance of understanding the environment you're operating in, which resonates with my journey of navigating through societal pressures.
Conclusions
Choosing to abandon a scarcity mindset has paved the way for a life filled with possibilities. Every choice I made, guided by intuition, has affirmed my path. While trusting my instincts came with its hurdles, the rewards of feeling in control of my life have been profound.
