Evernote: Finding My Way Back Home After a Price Hike
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to Evernote's Value
In today's digital landscape, we are inundated with various applications and software solutions. While this abundance offers a range of choices, it can lead to a constant cycle of experimenting with different tools. What often goes unnoticed is that if something serves your needs well, there’s typically no reason to replace it.
This realization hit me after the recent Evernote price increase.
Section 1.1: My Experience with Evernote
As a long-time Evernote user, the pricing changes initially didn't faze me. I found the software to be effective for my requirements. However, discussions on platforms like Reddit often highlighted Evernote's costs compared to other note-taking applications, suggesting that alternatives might offer superior features.
While I was initially skeptical, the idea of enhanced customization, improved workflows, and additional functionalities at a lower price was tempting. Eventually, I decided to test out Notion, an app frequently compared to Evernote.
Subsection 1.1.1: Transitioning to Notion
In my previous article, I detailed my strategy for integrating Notion into my note-taking and task management practices.
Section 1.2: The Reality of Switching
Adapting to Notion meant I had to adjust my note-taking habits. Despite its robust capabilities and extensive customization options—making it a great choice for businesses seeking to optimize documentation—it fell short of my expectations for personal use.
I was in search of a straightforward, user-friendly, cross-platform tool with offline access. Notion’s complexity and reliance on third-party integrations made it less suitable for my needs.
Chapter 2: Evaluating Key Features
Below, I’ll outline my findings regarding specific functionalities in Notion compared to Evernote.

How To Use The NEW Evernote Home Page - YouTube: A guide on navigating the latest updates and features of Evernote’s interface.
- Web Clipping: I found the web clipping feature in Notion lacking. It occasionally fails to capture the content accurately, often saving only the URL instead of the desired information.
- OCR Functionality: As of this writing, Notion still lacks OCR capabilities, which I heavily relied on in Evernote. Evernote's recent AI Search enhancement further improved this aspect.
- Emailing Notes to Evernote: While it’s possible to send notes to Evernote from Notion using third-party apps, Evernote's built-in email function is seamless and efficient.
- Automatic Scanning to Evernote: Though many note-taking apps allow for scans, the ease of capturing images through Evernote or its Scannable app remains unmatched.
- Direct Recordings in Notes: Notion permits audio recordings to be sent from your phone, but Evernote offers native recording capabilities directly within the app.
- Offline Notes: Offline access is crucial for me, especially when traveling in areas with unreliable internet. Knowing my notes are accessible offline is invaluable, a feature that many apps lack natively.
The Bottom Line
Ultimately, I have decided to continue using Evernote. Regardless of the features offered by other applications, Evernote meets my needs effectively.
Other readers might find different applications that suit them, and that’s perfectly fine. The key is to choose a tool that aligns with your requirements, invest time in learning its functionalities, and integrate it into your daily routine. After all, that’s the primary purpose of these tools.
