# Discover 5 Hidden iPhone Features You Never Knew Existed

Chapter 1: Uncovering Hidden iPhone Features

Using an iPhone is generally user-friendly, yet many individuals take longer paths to accomplish tasks. Over the years, iOS has evolved significantly, introducing numerous features that Apple struggles to highlight. Unfortunately, these are often labeled as "hidden" features, despite Apple's best efforts to make them known. Below are five of these underutilized features that you might not even be aware of, along with instructions on how to use them effectively.

Section 1.1: Mail Drop

Mail Drop is a feature designed for users of the native Mail app, regardless of their email provider. This tool offers 1TB of Apple’s storage for your email attachments free of charge. When you attempt to send a large file, Mail Drop automatically uploads it to Apple’s servers and sends a download link to the recipient instead of using your email provider's storage limits (like Gmail's 5GB).

Note: Mail Drop is optional, and the maximum file size for a single attachment is 5GB. Attachments remain on Apple's servers for up to 30 days, during which time the recipient must download them.

To ensure Mail always selects Mail Drop for large files, you can configure the settings on your Mac by going to Mail > Preferences and checking 'Send large attachments with Mail Drop'.

Section 1.2: Selecting Items Easily

If you’ve ever needed to select multiple items in Mail or Voice Memos, you might have been told to click 'Edit' and select them one by one. However, there's a much quicker method. Simply place two fingers on an item and drag them up or down. Once you reach the end of the list, hold your fingers still to select items continuously. This method is incredibly efficient.

Subsection 1.2.1: In-built Authenticator

As a proponent of minimalism, I prefer using built-in apps over third-party alternatives when possible. For nearly a year after purchasing my first iPhone, I relied on third-party authenticators from Google and Microsoft. Eventually, I discovered that Apple has its own authenticator tucked away in the 'Passwords' section. After setting it up, I deleted the other apps and have never looked back.

The built-in authenticator seamlessly integrates with Safari, auto-filling verification codes using Face or Touch ID. This means I no longer need to type the codes manually.

Section 1.3: Flight Tracker Feature

Another often-overlooked feature is the built-in flight tracker. To use it, connect your iPhone to the internet and type a flight number, such as AA412, into Spotlight or Safari. The first suggested option will lead you to Apple’s hidden flight-tracking feature, which provides the same information as third-party apps with equal accuracy.

Bonus: If someone shares a flight number with you via iMessage, you can track it directly from the message.

Section 1.4: Quick Text Search in Safari

Many users still opt for the longer route when searching for text on a webpage in Safari. Instead of tapping the Share button and selecting 'Find on Page', you can now search directly from the address bar. Just open a webpage, click on the address bar, type in the text you want to locate, and you’ll see the matches highlighted. This feature was quietly introduced in iOS 15 and makes finding information much simpler.
