Chapter 1: Reflecting on Life Choices
What if you found out you had only six months to live? How would that change your approach to life? Would you choose to leave your job, connect with the same people, embark on a long-awaited adventure, end a relationship, or even relocate to a new city? Perhaps you'd take that long-desired cruise to stunning destinations like St. Lucia, Barbados, or Madrid.
During my daily 13,000-step walk in the park, I stumbled upon Les Brown's "Greatness Radio" podcast, which pondered the question, “How to Get What You Want from Life?” This sparked a flood of thoughts about what truly brings us happiness, peace, and a sense of stability.
Inspired by the podcast, I felt compelled to share my reflections. As a Christian writer, my perspective is shaped by my values, ethics, and faith, which often push me to strive for a higher standard of living.
We all yearn for the freedom to explore this precious life bestowed upon us. As I walked through a swarm of gnats, the ideal life I envision for myself became clearer.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Living near Masterson Station Park in Kentucky, I frequently encounter horses that serve as a reminder of the life I aspire to lead. I reflect on my desires and feel grateful to still be alive at 41. Yet, I grapple with the essential question: “How can we fully extract the richness from our life experiences and truly live our best lives?”
Chapter 2: The Hard Decisions
Quit Your Job: As a Gemini Midheaven, I've learned to expect many shifts in my career journey. My resume reveals gaps and a lack of consistent employment. I realized I wasn't meant to work for others, yet financial responsibilities, a marriage, and children complicated my pursuit of idealism.
I once believed that achieving financial stability would resolve most issues and often left jobs that hindered my health and dreams. However, I paid a heavy price over the past 18 years for prioritizing my passion over tradition. The pandemic forced me to reconsider my choices and re-enter the workforce, highlighting the systemic issues we face in achieving our desires.
Leave Your Toxic Relationship: Breakups can be challenging, especially when significant time has been invested. However, prioritizing mental health is crucial. I often ponder the impact on my children's future when contemplating leaving a toxic relationship. A wise exit requires careful planning and a clear direction.
Tap into Your Gifts: How long will we search for the talents that already reside within us? Our unique gifts provide purpose in life. Discovering our true calling is often a struggle. It's easy to assume that opportunities will simply present themselves, but tapping into your gifts requires confronting the roles and responsibilities we've created over the years.
For me, the goal is to enhance my storytelling, investigative, and communication skills. I need a strategic plan, unwavering faith, creativity, and confidence that I am capable of manifesting my aspirations.
Ultimately, you owe it to yourself to make tough decisions that will shape your legacy. What will people remember about you when all is said and done? Often, the only obstacles are self-imposed. Les Brown's motivational podcast ignited my desire to continue building my brand, brick by brick, while enhancing my skills and focusing on my target audience.
