Responsible Use of AI: A Call for Caution and Awareness

Chapter 1: The Rising Concerns of AI
While Hollywood grapples with its own issues, our focus here is the urgent warnings surrounding artificial intelligence (AI). The rapid development of AI technologies, like ChatGPT, has sparked a myriad of discussions, especially within a few short months.
I have a deep appreciation for technology and its advancements, but we must acknowledge the problems that accompany AI. Many of you may enjoy AI-generated art that reflects your identity. However, beneath this allure lies a serious threat to humanity. You might think I'm overreacting, but consider the potential for misuse—an individual with malicious intent could deploy AI in ways that disrupt our communities.
AI certainly has its merits, but it is flourishing in areas where it poses risks. Unfortunately, some individuals have already figured out ways to exploit it. This situation arises when advanced technology is introduced to a society that may not be equipped to handle it responsibly. We must be wary, as this technology is not going away anytime soon.
It’s not that I oppose AI; rather, I refuse to participate in trends that could jeopardize my existence. AI should primarily be the domain of skilled professionals in technology—not scammers or those with questionable motives. We must reserve its use for those who understand its implications, not for those in Hollywood.
Section 1.1: The Dangers of Unchecked AI
One of the significant risks of introducing advanced technology is the lack of foresight regarding potential consequences. AI is dangerously close to being classified as weapons-grade technology, and negligence could lead to legal battles over copyright infringement. This is a pressing concern for creative professionals, particularly in Hollywood, where the unauthorized use of likenesses is a hot topic. While their grievances are understandable, my concern lies with the artists who do not have the financial backing that many in Hollywood enjoy.
When ChatGPT first appeared, I anticipated that many would want to create images that represent their self-perception. The AI-generated art I've seen is undeniably impressive, yet we should not allow the stunning visuals to obscure the potential disasters that could arise from this technology.
Subsection 1.1.1: Copyright and Plagiarism Issues
It’s surprising that the developers of AI did not take into account the implications of copyright infringement and plagiarism, which carry significant legal ramifications. We're witnessing this firsthand through the ongoing Hollywood strike, as actors demand compensation and protection when their likenesses are utilized for commercial gain.
Let’s address the issue of plagiarism. If you’re reading this, you likely understand its definition. Some writers are considering using AI to draft their articles, which raises eyebrows regarding the future of originality. It appears that the notion of "thinking ahead" has been overlooked.
Writers should inherently know that relying on AI could lead them into murky waters concerning the infringement of others' work—essentially plagiarism. The essence of creativity should stem from individual thought, not from robotic assistance. It’s exasperating that this needs reiteration.
Section 1.2: The Threat of Misinformation
As we discuss the realistic nature of AI-generated images, we must acknowledge the potential dangers. Innocent individuals can be falsely depicted at crime scenes they have no connection to. If you fail to see the risk here, you will when a video falsely portrays your favorite politician in a compromising scenario. A significant portion of the public might mistakenly accept this as truth, as I’ve seen AI-generated videos that convincingly misrepresent reality.
The spread of misinformation is set to become a formidable challenge in the near future. The general population tends to believe what they see online, and it feels as though AI has been introduced at a time when society is ill-prepared for such advancements. The rush to adopt AI is concerning, especially as it attracts scammers looking to exploit its capabilities.
