Unlocking the Potential of the "Ditto" Command in Terminal

Chapter 1: Understanding the Ditto Command
What exactly is Ditto? No, it’s not the Pokémon! It’s an incredibly powerful Terminal command that Apple users adore. Essentially, Ditto allows you to replicate your entire computer setup and settings to another machine or an external drive. Here’s how you can utilize it:
Step 1: Launch Terminal on Your Mac. You can easily find it by pressing Command + Space bar together, which will open the Spotlight search. Type "Terminal" and hit enter/return to open it.
Step 2: Enter "ditto" followed by a single space in the Terminal. Next, drag the folder you wish to back up (the Source folder) into the Terminal window.
Step 3: Now, access the Mac where you want to transfer this data. If you prefer using an external drive, open that instead. On the target Mac, navigate to Finder, locate the Computer folder or the Macintosh HD (represented by a silver drive icon), and create a new folder within your Home Folder. Ensure this new folder has the exact same username as the data being transferred. For instance, if the old Mac's username is "medium", name the new folder "medium" in your current Mac's Home directory. Then, drag this folder into the Terminal.
Section 1.1: What Comes After Using Ditto?
After using Ditto, you should initiate the Migration Assistant to transfer applications and settings. To open Migration Assistant on your macOS, be sure to UNCHECK your username! In fact, deselect all user accounts. Just keep Application, System Settings, and Other Files and Folders checked, then proceed with the migration.
