It may sound like a cliché, but I genuinely believe that everyone has a distinct contribution to make in this world. Each individual is unique, possessing a combination of genetics, experiences, memories, aspirations, and fears that no one else shares.
This individuality grants you an inherent worth, meaning you have something invaluable to offer—something that only you can provide to enhance the world.
This essence is what I refer to as purpose. It might also be known as dharma, calling, fate, or legacy—regardless of the name, it serves as a guiding principle that imbues your life with significance. It provides clarity during prosperous times and offers motivation in challenging periods.
When you align with your purpose, you will:
- Feel more assured about your identity
- Wake up with enthusiasm, eager to embrace the day
- Experience profound joy and satisfaction
- Connect with like-minded individuals
- Persevere through adversity, ultimately reaping the rewards
In essence, a life driven by purpose is fulfilling and transformative. In its absence, life can feel unfulfilling, arduous, and exhausting.
But how can you pinpoint your purpose?
In this guide, I will present some strategies and questions that have been instrumental for me in uncovering my own purpose.
Chapter 2: The Three Core Elements of Purpose
After years of seeking my own purpose and conducting thorough research, I identified three essential elements of purpose for you to explore:
- Joy — it should evoke deep joy and inner contentment.
- Skill — it involves talents that you either possess or can develop.
- Gift — it positively influences the lives of others.
Your purpose lies at the convergence of these three elements. Below, I offer seven questions for each component, inviting you to apply this framework to your own life.
I suggest taking out a pen and paper (or opening your preferred note-taking app) to jot down your responses. This will allow you to reflect on them later and identify the common thread of your purpose.
Questions to Explore Your Joy
- What are your greatest passions?
- What topics do you enjoy learning about during your leisure time?
- What activities immerse you in a state of flow and deep focus?

- What would you engage in even without compensation?
Questions to Explore Your Skills

Chapter 3: Weaving It All Together
At the intersection of your joy, skills, and gifts lies your purpose.
Review your responses to the questions above and look for recurring themes. Seek the "golden thread" that connects these three components.
Envision a scenario where all three aspects come together. What would your daily life entail? The more detailed your vision, the clearer your path will become.
As you engage with this envisioned reality and connect with your purpose, pay attention to your feelings. If you experience an uplift in your mood, you're likely moving in the right direction.
This envisioned ideal life reflects your purpose. The more you connect with it, the easier it becomes to act in alignment with it daily and transform it into reality.
However, don't rush this process. Remember, your purpose is not fixed; it will evolve as you do. Consider this an initial stepping stone.
