Exploring the Scientific Possibility of Ghosts and Spirits

Chapter 1: Understanding Ghosts and Spirits
When we talk about ghosts, we're often referring to entities that seem to move through walls. It's important to distinguish between the terms "ghost" and "spirit," as they carry different meanings. Spirits are generally perceived as the souls of the deceased, possessing consciousness and personality. They can be contacted by mediums and are free to traverse dimensions at will, unbound by any single location.
In contrast, ghosts are often seen as non-interactive apparitions that haunt specific places. These manifestations are typically understood as residual energy, replaying events that occurred at particular times and locations—often tied to where individuals lived or died.
The question remains: Can ghosts truly exist? This topic has sparked extensive debate over the years. While many individuals claim to have encountered them, others remain skeptical or hesitant to share their experiences for fear of being judged. In fact, approximately 45% of Americans believe they have witnessed a ghost, and some even report feeling uneasy when their pets appear to gaze at seemingly empty corners of the room.
Ghost sightings are reported globally, across diverse cultures. Personally, I know several rational individuals who assert they have seen something they believe was a ghost. This raises the question: Is there a logical, scientific explanation for these experiences?
I have conducted some research into quantum mechanics (though not at an advanced level) to delve deeper into this hidden realm. Experts in the field, such as Albert Einstein, agree on several key points: everything is composed of energy.
The human body is a complex system of matter and energy, with approximately 20 watts of energy coursing through it—enough to power a light bulb.

Einstein's studies in thermodynamics reveal that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it merely changes form. The total energy within an isolated system remains constant. Furthermore, Einstein posited that matter and energy are interconnected aspects of the same fundamental reality.
Scientific findings suggest there is a primary energy that permeates the universe, linking everything together. This notion is reminiscent of concepts like "the Force" in Star Wars.
While the universe as a whole is a closed system, human bodies and ecosystems are open systems. We exchange energy with our environment, absorbing it through chemical processes and expelling it as waste or heat. After death, the atoms that compose our bodies are repurposed, echoing the energy that originated during the Big Bang. Consequently, our energy continues to resonate throughout space indefinitely.
When individuals experience trauma or emotional upheaval, they often report feeling drained. This raises the possibility that some of their energy may be transferred and absorbed by nearby objects, such as buildings.
Consider the definition of a haunted space: a location often associated with "mental anguish or torment." Most ghost sightings involve individuals who have endured significant loss or trauma. Could it be that energy is imprinted onto objects at the time of death, particularly in tragic circumstances?

For instance, ghosts known as "white ladies" are often linked to tragic occurrences—accidental deaths, murders, or betrayals—evoking intense emotions. Is it possible that when people claim to see a ghost, they are witnessing a replay of an event as an energy imprint? Much like a video on a loop, these ghosts lack interactive consciousness; they merely represent a past occurrence, unaffected by present circumstances.
Changing the physical layout of a building might cause these entities to appear to pass through walls that weren't present when the original event took place.
Notable ghost stories include those from the Battle of Gettysburg, where over 7,500 soldiers lost their lives during the largest battle in North America. Reports of phantom apparitions and the sounds of battle are common in the area, with many believing that spirits of the fallen still linger.

Additionally, the White House is said to be haunted by President Abraham Lincoln. Numerous credible sightings have been reported by various individuals, including First Lady Grace Coolidge and Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. The last known sighting occurred in the early 1980s, when a White House staff member claimed to have seen Lincoln seated at the top of the stairs.
Why would so many individuals publicly share their ghost encounters, risking ridicule, if they were not convinced of their experiences?
Several celebrities, including Kristen Stewart and Matthew McConaughey, have spoken about their supernatural experiences. This leads to the question: Could the ability to perceive ghosts be linked to individual vibrational frequencies?
Physicist Aaron Freemen stated via NPR that one would want a physicist to address their grieving family at a funeral, emphasizing that energy is conserved and never truly dies. He suggests that understanding the conservation of energy might provide solace to those mourning.
