The Purpose of Human Life: Embracing Life's Profound Journeys

Chapter 1: The Search for Purpose
The eternal question that echoes through time: What is our purpose here?
Having delved deeply into near-death experiences, I find myself enamored with life, realizing that I have consciously chosen to embark on this unusual journey.
Before we delve into the essence of life's purpose, let’s first clarify what we mean by life itself. For simplicity’s sake, we can define human life as commencing at birth and concluding at death. The interaction of our consciousness with our surroundings is what we describe as living.
There are two unchanging elements and one dynamic aspect in this equation. The constants involve our engagement with the world around us and the myriad experiences we encounter and ultimately leave behind. The variable is our consciousness, which can either expand or contract. This fluctuation is one of the many purposes of life: to broaden or narrow our awareness of existence.
Witnessing the birth of a child is nothing short of miraculous. I have had the honor of being present at various births; it is a stunning experience, albeit accompanied by anxiety, pain, cries, and challenges.
The journey of pre-life lasts around nine months, during which the developing baby relies on the strength of its mother. She becomes increasingly resilient as the demands of carrying a child take a toll on her body.
In this pre-life phase, one aspect of our purpose becomes clear: we are here to navigate paradoxes. The mother's body may weaken due to the growing life within her, yet she emerges stronger. “During pregnancy, the amount of blood pumped by the heart (cardiac output) increases by 30 to 50%.”
I have encountered numerous paradoxes, such as how painful experiences often lead to profound happiness, while joyous moments can result in significant misery.
Upon entering the world, another layer of life’s purpose unfolds. Caring for a child represents a journey, one marked by processes that are both familiar and unknown. While we may have a general vision of what we hope to achieve, the unfolding of life’s processes remains unpredictable.
This unpredictability is another reason for our existence: to engage with processes filled with uncertainty, all while utilizing a brain that relies heavily on prior knowledge.
Life is fundamentally about these processes and paradoxes. We are here to explore the intricacies of existence.
The various experiences we encounter shape and redefine our consciousness. On some level, we choose the processes we wish to engage with, while at other times, circumstances dictate our choices. Moreover, we often realize that we possess the power to influence our experiences actively.
To illustrate this, consider a metaphor: envision yourself as a mouse pointer and life as a computer interface.
Your purpose is to navigate across the screen, selecting files or folders. Depending on your choices, your form might change. For instance, in a word processor, you transition from an arrow to a flat line. But do not be alarmed; the paradox lies in the fact that even when you appear flat, you are still an arrow at your core.
You might seem small against the vast array of files and folders, yet by engaging with them, you bring them to life. If you refrain from interaction, they remain dormant and unexplored.
Your capabilities are extensive: you can highlight, select, cut, drag, and drop. Your mission is to traverse the computer's landscape. You are not limited to what you seem until specific conditions arise. The computer space appears expansive, yet you have the potential to reach any corner if you direct your movement there.
You are the mouse pointer, and life serves as the computer.
The essence of this reflection is to persuade you that life is less about the end results and more about the journeys we undertake.
The outcome reflects the duration of your engagement with the process. For example, if I run daily for a week, I may see a boost in morale. However, running consistently for a year could reveal its impact on mental resilience.
Conversely, if I use drugs for just one night, I might wake up feeling lightheaded. Yet, if drug use extends over a year, I may not live to feel anything at all.
Thus, every outcome is akin to an AI-generated title summarizing how deeply you have engaged with a process and the paradoxes you have unraveled about yourself.
Life transcends the notion of outcomes; it is fundamentally about the processes we navigate.
