Chapter 1: The Emotional Rollercoaster of Hustling
Recently, I found myself in a state of distress and exhaustion, despite experiencing some successes. I had even formed my first genuine connection on this platform, exchanging emails with a new friend. How exciting! Yet, my emotions were tumultuous, leading me to believe I might have jeopardized that budding friendship.
Despite that uncertainty, my admiration for her insights remains unwavering, and I will continue to support her journey through my applause and comments. Her words prompted a moment of introspection—I realized I was experiencing burnout.
I had been too stubborn to acknowledge it. I felt an incessant pressure to achieve more, even as my body struggled to keep up. It’s common to feel the urge to do more, especially in a time when prices for products and services are soaring. Naturally, we push ourselves to stay ahead of our financial obligations.
However, I was reflecting on the situation incorrectly.
How is it that we constantly strive to do more? Why do we isolate ourselves and extend our work hours, yet still feel inadequate?
While I could be mistaken, I’ve come to believe that outworking inflation or rising prices is not feasible. Instead, your assets should work in your favor.
The reality is that many of us rely solely on our time and savings, but that doesn’t necessarily place you at a significant disadvantage. Here are some strategies I’ve been implementing:
This is a principle we all recognize but often overlook during critical times. Before you consider taking on another side hustle, prioritize your sleep.
As I share this, I remind myself of the same. It’s not just about rest; it’s about nurturing love, peace, clarity, purpose, collaboration, affection, positive intentions, and support.
The next time fatigue sets in, consider going to bed earlier. You’ll wake up feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle your side gig.
Rank your paid endeavors over uncertain algorithm-driven work. Align your intentions to retain existing clients while pursuing new ones.
You can always shift your focus, but it’s vital to clarify your motivations.
When you find yourself in a productive flow state, continue working if it feels right. You might be perfecting one project, but is this the most efficient use of your time? Perhaps not.
If you find yourself anxious about someone appropriating your ideas, it could indicate that your style isn’t yet recognizable, or your innovation process may need refinement. If others draw inspiration from your work, it can spark a trend that circles back to you.
When procrastination beckons, focus on completing your most pressing task. Finish it, then allow yourself a break. This will alleviate the dread of rescheduling that activity in the future.
Surround yourself with people, even if you prefer not to engage in conversation. Gradually immersing yourself in social settings can enhance your mood over time.
If you’re short on time, give yourself one intentional and mindful hug. Let that connection serve as a reminder that you are not alone.
If you wake up to another day, know that your bills will still be there, whether you’re feeling well or not. Just because you can cover your expenses this month doesn’t guarantee you can do the same next month. Ensure you maintain your health and energy to keep moving forward, allowing you to sustain your current lifestyle.
