Understanding the Hidden Turmoil of Narcissists: A Deep Dive
Written on
Chapter 1: The Concealed Struggles of Narcissists
It’s not uncommon to witness narcissists retreating into a state of exhaustion, often sleeping excessively whenever possible. This behavior seems to stem from deeper spiritual conflicts and a troubled conscience, as they are acutely aware of the harm they have inflicted on countless individuals.
Many people have suffered significant consequences due to their encounters with narcissists—some have faced imprisonment, developed addictions, or tragically lost their lives because of these toxic relationships.
Consider how many individuals were already grappling with their own issues or mental health struggles when they encountered a narcissist, only to find their realities further manipulated, leading them toward psychosis or other harmful behaviors.
The harsh reality is that not everyone survives the encounter with a narcissist. What’s even more troubling is that narcissists are cognizant of the damage they cause when they target their next victim. Although they may attempt to conceal their intentions at that moment, the weight of their actions inevitably burdens them later.
Section 1.1: The Burden of Consciousness
Narcissists possess an awareness of societal norms, which means they understand when their actions are deemed unacceptable. However, at the moment, they often disregard these moral considerations.
Experience has taught me that this disregard for social norms doesn’t last indefinitely. Their false persona might allow them to treat others with indifference, yet deep down, they are haunted by their actions.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Nighttime Turmoil
As night falls, most narcissists find it difficult to sleep, plagued by memories of their deeds. The absence of others to project their negativity onto intensifies their internal torment, making sleepless nights a regular occurrence.
Each night, the guilt, shame, and self-reproach resurface, as they confront the hurtful things they have said and done. With no one to affirm their false self or bolster their ego, they are forced to face their true selves, and this realization is terrifying.
Section 1.2: The Pursuit of Escape
It’s not unusual for narcissists to resort to drugs or alcohol as a means to cope with their nighttime anxieties and secure a semblance of sleep. Unfortunately, these substances often exacerbate their abusive tendencies and widen their disconnect from reality, making them even more detrimental.
However, while you snuggle comfortably in your bed, anticipating a restful night, remember that the narcissist will likely never experience such peace.
